My husband was celebrating his 80th birthday and wanted to catch and release while I took photos. Capt Russ loaded his lines with shrimp and then efficiently removed the fish without harming it. Russ even had me reel in a Spanish Mackerel which unfortunately never made it completely out of water before a dolphin came up to the boat and grabbed it.
After catching 66 fish of 5 species and still having 90 min on the clock for our 4 hour excursion, the Captain took us on a narrated tour of the islands where we learned about the Calusa Indians who were enslaved by Indian tribes from SC and GS and sold to the English as slaves.
Both the fisherman and the photographer enjoyed this trip, and I look forward to reading his book on my drive home.

What a blast! Two friends and I had the experience of fishing with captain Russ for half a day. We were busy! Pretty continuous strikes while Russ instructed us on improving our chances. I was impressed by his respectful manner and his ability to communicate instruction clearly. We definitely improved our casting and catching. Best of all, we caught enough for dinner!

Spent a half day on the water with my son who recently graduated from college. Had a wonderful experience. Capt. Russ was charming and informative and willing to share his fishing knowledge. Great equipment and most importantly, HE KNOWS WHERE THE FISH ARE! We visited approx 5 different spots during our half day and each spot produced. We couldn't ask for more (or expect more) in four hours of fishing!

Extraordinary day with the Amazing Captain Russ
From first contact with Capt. Russ we knew our day with him out on the water would be magnificent. And it was. Communicating with him was seamless. Punctual and ready to roll at our designated spot, the start of the charter was just the beginning of perfection. He taught us how to fish in the beautiful waters of SW Florida. Yank and crank was our mantra. We caught sooooooo many fish and just enough keepers for dinners the rest of the week. Captain Russ took the lead to take us to lunch at Cabbage Key.....so many in line waiting to get in the restaurant. Captain Russ made sure we were treated like royalty....it was magic. All in all, do not hesitate to book. When deciding which Captain would be best Captain Russ should be your first choice. He made a day on the water for our family one of true joy. Thank you Captain Russ!

There are great Charter Captains and there are Bad Charter Captains and then there is Captain Russ Walker! After going on over 75 charters in the last 24 months I can safely say he is the one of the worse if not the worse captains in Florida! His boat is old, dirty and looks like a rolling billboard on water! His fishing gear is outdated and his attitude is that of a man who once had his lunch money stolen in school and now that he’s a Captain he can tell everyone what to do, where to sit and when to talk! Maybe if you have never fished before and you like being told exactly how to do everything per his rules then you would enjoy yourself but if you have fished before and if your have been on other charters you will be disappointed in Captain Bligh! We lasted 20 minutes until we told him we had enough! I would of given him a negative rating if I could of. There are plenty of great Captains that fish the same area he does. Do yourself a favor and use one of them.

The trip of this lasted less than 20 minutes on my boat that morning
While touting his unquestionable ability and refusing to honor vessel safety procedures for casting a treble hook lure, potentially jeopardizing his young son, or me as well. Subsequently, I ended the trip within minutes of departure, just after the safety meeting.
Safety meetings and demonstrations are imperative and are given for a reason. Clients must observe my rules for the benefit of all on board. My Marine and Guide insurance will allow nothing less.
As far as the boat and equipment, they are top notch. It remains Clean and Roomy. We keep it that way. We use it daily. See the website at www.tidewalkercharters.com
The rods and reels on board are always top notch. All New PENN reels and Shakespeare 7’ super sensitive rods too, I might ad.
This review posted here is not about grading a fishing experience for better or worse. The review contains a completely inaccurate account of what transpired that morning.
As I made my departure from the dock where he stood, while holding his arm up shouting angrily at me; Quote: “I will destroy you on social media.” End quote. All over not wanting to follow safety regs or being asked to do so.
I am an experienced, knowledgeable guide that cares about client safety while providing a pleasurable fishing experience. I have 54 Top 5 reviews on this very TripAdvisor site over 8.5 years that speak to the contrary of this review.

Excellent day on the water with Captain Russ! You wont’t find a more knowledgeable Captain who has 43 years of experience fishing these waters. He kept us entertained with stories and we caught a wide
variety of fish. Pompano, Sea Trout, Black Tip Sharks, Squirrel Fish, Blue Fish, and Spanish Mackerel. We even witnessed a dolphin breach the water and catch a fish in the air… spectacular!!!
Captain Russ was excellent with our teenage son. This was an awesome experience overall and great way to experience these awesome waters.

Back in the summer of 2021 my best friend and I decided we were going to head to the West Coast of Florida around the Cape Coral area to do some relaxing. It was going to be a couples trip. We decided to look up a fishing charter that would have the experience for that area of the state. My friend and I both grew up in South Florida and we have been used to fishing in Lake Okeechobee as well as the Atlantic. But we both realize that fishing in the gulf, especially in land on the West Coast is a bit uncharted territory for us both.
While looking at things to do word of mouth kicked in and we heard about Tide Walker Charters. The word on the street was that if you’re going with Capt Russ he’s going to put you on the fish. That is exactly what we were looking for. And the end result was exactly that.
We had a half day charter booked and in that half day we caught over seven species and certainly 30 to 40 fish. Now I’m not gonna tell a long fishtail, some of the fish we’re not keepers. But my forearms were sore for a couple days after.
Capt Russ knew his environment so well that when he felt the fish were not biting anymore, we moved. And then the next spot we were on the fish again. There is no doubt he possesses an inventory of locations that can light up at the drop of a hat.
Sometimes I just sat back and enjoyed the ride and took in the atmosphere and the beautiful, picturesque environment. And as we journeyed between fishing spots I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with him. He is an incredibly intelligent man and I wouldn’t mind calling him my friend.
If you have never fished before or you are a seasoned veteran you will not be disappointed. Captain Russ will help anyone while on board.
Even though I fished in October 2021 I am currently working on finding a way to get back over there as soon as possible. I need more of that!

Capt Russ provided a great trip! He was punctual, friendly, patient in teaching novices, and put us in great spots all day where we were constantly " catching" instead of just " fishing". We pulled in at least 145 fish on a 4 hour trip with the majority being 1 to about 4 pound trout. Excellent trip and a great day! Highly recommend Capt Russ!

We had a great fishing trip with Captain Russ. He is very professional, making sure our fishing trip was not only fun but informative, with great scenery. His boat is clean and comfortable. The big one escaped us, but we reeled in dozens of fish on our half day trip. Highly Recommend!!

Another great day of fishing with captain Russ. My wife was complaining about a sore wrist from reeling in fish 🐟all day long. Capt Russ is very helpful with less experienced anglers. My grandson caught a fish on the first cast and had a great time. We will fish with Capt Russ again and would encourage anyone else who wants action all day

“Sun, Fun, Fishing, Burger, and Educational experience”
Outstanding family experience. The group included two young men 18 and 20 years old. Capt Russ taught them the how, why, and what to expect when baiting the hooks, casting, line slack, and reeling in the catch. He also showed and explained what they were seeing on the depth and fish finder electronics. The young men were given a learning experience while having a great time. The fact they were able to see a dolphin and a shark close added to their experience. Lastly, do the Burger lunch at Cabbage Key, and ABSOLUTELY get the cookie dough ice cream sandwich ( feeds two) Thanks Capt Russ, see ya on the boys next trip to visit.

Captain Russ is amazing!!!! He is a fountain of knowledge about the area and fishing!! My boys 20 and 17 absolutely enjoyed him!! He is very patient and taught them how to be better fisherman. We saw a dolphin, a shark, and caught several different fish. Lunch at Cabbage Key (cookie dough ice cream sandwich is a must lol) The captain worked hard to give us an amazing experience! Look forward to going again!! Thank you Captain Russ!! We appreciate you so much! My boys are still talking about how awesome you are! ❤️

Had a great trip with Captain Russ out of Bokeelia with my son and wife. He is a real pro and put on on the fish, believe we caught 9 species including Spanish mackerel , trout, sharks , pompano. The Captain is pleasant, patient and great to fish with and we look forward to going out with him again.

Took my son out for our first fishing charter. Captain Russ was outstanding and worked hard to make sure we stayed on the fish. He was great with my 15 year old son. We made great memories and had a great lunch at Cabbage Key Inn. Captain Russ had a wealth of knowledge about the area that we discussed moving from fishing spots. When we come back we will be fishing with Captain Russ again.

The best family friendly professional angling experience. Russ has years of experience and know how. He's extremely friendly patient and positive. He helped us in all aspects of the fishing experience. He baited the hooks and casts the lines to help your children catch fish. He gives expert instruction and easy to follow tips to ensure your success.
We caught a ton of fish and had our most memorable experience on the water.

Beautiful day on the water. Captain Russ knows how to bring you to the best fishing spots and how to get a table without a wait for lunch at cabbage key. My arms were tired after reeling in so many fish and the creatures we encountered beyond the scaly kind were amazing too. I could do this every day.

What a great day fishing with Captain Russ! Caught so many fish that included 5 different species. Capt. Russ shared many tips for fishing; his knowledge improved our skills and success. Capt Russ provided a great half day trip with my daughter and husband. Lot's of history of the area and he took us to 4 or 5 great spots that were amazing. At one, we were getting a hit within 3 seconds of the bait entering the water; wore us out. Now back at home, I am starting on his new book . Will definitely charter with Capt Russ again.

I booked a fishing tour with Russ for my husband and 2 teenage boys. They LOVED it. Caught loads of fish - my oldest caught a small shark and was thrilled. Russ has tremendous knowledge of the waters and local fishing and made for a brilliant and fun day on the water. I would recommend him to anyone. Incredible experience.
